FLIGHT NURSE

California Shock Trauma Air Rescue (CALSTAR) is a nonprofit regional air ambulance service.  Our mission is to save lives, reduce disability and speed recovery for victims of trauma and illness.  CALSTAR has an immediate opening for a FULL TIME FLIGHT NURSES in Northern CA. 

The Position:

The flight nurse is a professional registered nurse who is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the care of critically ill and injured adults and children. FN reports to the Chief Flight Nurse.  As a member of the flight team, contributes to a cooperative working relationship with the other members of the team, toward the end of providing quality patient care.

Qualified Candidates must have:

  • At least THREE years recent experience in Critical Care, Trauma, Emergency and/or transport nursing or THREE years experience as RN with a minimum of FIVE years experience in emergency medical services.
  • Current CA RN license or eligible for licensure as an RN in the State of California
  • BLC, ACLS, and PALS verifications.
  • Must meet the weight standard as set by CALSTAR policy.

Transport RN

Boise, Idaho

FLIGHT PARAMEDIC

Superior Air Med 1 is looking for an experienced flight paramedic to work at their new base in Michigan.  This is a great opportunity to foster the development of this new program.   Safety and high quality healthcare are our goals. Superior Ambulance has been in business since 1959 and operates one EMS helicopter and over 200 ground units in 3 states.  


The aircraft is a new EC 135 P2+, equipped with all the latest state of the art safety features including single pilot IFR, NVG, TAWS, TCAS, etc.  We provide both scene and inter-facility transports.

This program is located at Oakland County International Airport, northwest of Detroit, Michigan. 

Knowledge and Abilities:

The flight paramedic will have an intimate knowledge of the principles of transport nursing as established by professionally recognized curriculum.   Upon completion of the orientation process the Flight paramedic will be able to integrate theory and practice to provide safe, effective and efficient patient care in a very high stress environment.   Strong clinical assessment and documentation skills are a must.   Ability to collaborate with various healthcare professional seamlessly and efficiently is required to effectively deliver quality patient care.    Effective professional and compassionate communication is required for all patient and family interactions.    The flight paramedic must possess, upon completion of orientation, an intimate working knowledge of the principles of crew resource management as outlined by the Hospital Aeromedical Training Manual provided by Metro Aviation.   For the Flight Paramedic, significant emphasis is placed on advanced airway skills.   Previous 911 experience with documented successful intubations is required.

Required Education/ Certification

            Graduate of an accredited paramedic education program.

            National Registry Paramedic (NREMTP)

            Critical Care Paramedic (CCEMT-P)      

           (UMBC or equivalent program)

            Current BLS for the Healthcare Provider

            Current ACLS provider status

            Current PALS provider status

            Current NRP provider status

            Current PHTLS provider status

           

Must obtain within one year of employment

            FP-C

Experience required

Previous flight experience preferred.

Minimum of 3 years of combined current critical care experience, (critical care ground transport or equivalent, ICU, ER) and 911 EMS service, including expertise in many of the following:

            Management of difficult airwaypatients

            Management of high acuity trauma patients

            Management of cardiovascular emergencies

            Management of patients with acute neurovascular emergencies

            Management of patient requiring mechanical ventilation

            Management of patients requiring hemodynamic monitoring

            Management of critically ill patients throughout the age span

            Triage of multiple high acuity patients in a highly stressful environment
