ASTNA Bereavement Fund
The Bereavement Fund was established in 1999 to remember colleagues who have given their
lives in the line of duty. In the event that crew members are killed in a transport crash, ASTNA
generally contributes $250 to the estate of each crew member that perished.

Air Medical Memorial Wings
Air Medical Memorial Wings Story
By: Cathy Spry, Flight nurse, STATCARE, Louisville, KY
The idea for the Air Medical Memorial Wings originated in January 1998
following an air medical accident. The wings were designed as a tribute to
our colleagues that have died as a result of an air medical accident.
Through the sponsorship of the Kentucky Chapter of AAMS, the wings were
produced in June 1998.
Similar to the way that police and firefighters wear a black
band or strip
across their badges for a fallen comrade, the memorial wings are intended
to show respect and honor for our air medical colleagues. The pin
can be
worn on any type of uniform or flight suit following an accident.
The Air Medical Memorial Wings© continues to provide a set
of pins to a
flight service where an accident occurs in memory of those crewmembers.
Additional pins can be obtained through the Air
Medical Memorial Wings website.
The cost of the Memorial Wings pin is $10.00, which
includes shipping.
$1.00 of this is donated to the ASTNA Bereavement Fund. Monetary
donations are also contributed within our industry for research and
safety. Please make checks payable to "Air Medical Memorial Wings".
On behalf of the Air Medical Memorial Wings, Inc. and the
Air and
Transport organizations, please accept our heartfelt sympathy and
prayers
to all of the services—and their families—that have suffered injury
or loss
of life. Thank you for your support of this memorial honoring our
colleagues.
